LIVING THE JOURNEY #1 - COME BACK TO THE HOME COUNTRY TO SEEK CAREER OPPORTUNITIES. IS THIS A DREAM JOURNEY?

More than five years of job experience in the United States and Shanghai is a significant advantage not all candidates have. But, from employers' perspective, is that advantage a plus when individuals return to Vietnam from overseas to seek opportunities to advance their career path?

That year, I learned about H - a potential candidate - through my partner's introduction, who was full of youthful excitement and ambition to advance his profession. With experience working at Big 4 corporations and living and working abroad for over five years, H's expertise and experience can fulfill the criteria of the most demanding employers.

I had the opportunity to meet with H on a lovely sunny afternoon after he returned to Saigon and hear more about his desire to find a new working environment in Vietnam and his goal to extend his work. I also provide him with enthusiastic and extensive recommendations on all information, particularly the competitiveness and adaptability of candidates returning from abroad vs domestic applicants.

The first opportunity presented itself when I received a recruitment request from a significant Navigos Search partner company seeking a Senior Manager position, with the requirement that the Candidate be knowledgeable about the domestic sector and have work experience in the Vietnamese market, so H's application was initially rejected.

However, I did not give up because I clearly understood the business's recruitment requirements and what qualities the Candidate possessed that would be suitable and contribute to the business's development. In an attempt to meet the company's Human Resources Director at an event, I presented H's benefits, which included cross-cultural experience, fluency in both English and Chinese, solid professional knowledge, and a high potential for vacancies. As a result, these qualities enabled H to participate in the interview round, and I was successful in the first phase.

Then, there were two interviews with the Country Head and the Formal Country Head. I helped H make a good impression in these two decision rounds by assisting H in finding and researching industry information such as competitors, company products, and fundamental requirements for the position. I also attempted to contact personnel working at the business to understand the company culture clearly. I offered the most particular information on how H should prepare because H had previously worked primarily independently, whereas the job required team leadership ability.

H made it through all of the interview rounds, but there was one more hurdle that we all had to overcome together: the "Reference Check" to determine H's suitability for this job position.

I proactively contacted the former direct manager, summarized information, analyzed, and consulted back to the Enterprise about H. Hence, H successfully applied for a Senior Manager position at one of Vietnam's leading insurance enterprises.

I was overjoyed when H formally accepted the position because I and H had "Lived The Journey" together. The road to a happy career is not easy, and each job transition milestone is fraught with difficulties.

But with the enthusiasm, responsibility, and dedication of a recruitment consultant, we - the Navigos Search recruiting consultants - will continue to provide the fullest Journeys.
